i think that judges should reflect on public opinion—as opposed to their own personal opinions—in deciding cases. That's not to say that the law shouldn't control—of course, the law controls—but there are times when a court can consider the larger world—and surely that should be the prevailing views of the country rather than their own narrower views. But stop for a moment—I don't mean they should adopt the prejudices of the mob, but rather the prevailing wisdom of considered judgement.
