while keeping within the basic traditional western theoretical parameters for music (no 12 tone schoenberg stuff!) is there any room for originality in music? or has it truly all been done? also, can originality be appreciated for what it is by the majority or does it have to be redone and reshaped over and over until it has precedent and can be labeled?

...what say you?

I think what is happening now is a fusion of genres as a means of creating new sounds, like what happened with Jazz… the originality that is sprouting up relates to performers I think more than the music composition itself… look at Michael Hedges, That 1 Guy, the Vegetable Orchestra, Keller Williams, etc… its new ways of playing instruments, new ways of making music as opposed to inventing new genres…

clearly traditional western music? clearly? yes he has had an influence and yes modern music is a reflection of his contributions, but the only thing Im clear about is your misuse of the word traditional.

I stand corrected. But I do consider your opinion and your knowledge of music to be found lacking amongst the majority of easy going and apathetic listeners…and my idea does state that todays originality is not so easily appreciated amongst the average joe.
