I was not long ago marching with Iraqis in downtown San Diego protesting the killing of their priests and altho my presence was appreciated I felt somehow I was not in the club. I find hyphenated Americans strange. I think American….not Latino or African but American and being from Arizona where there were few family relatives I grew up with Americans. When I moved to Minnesota years ago I remember how strange I felt being asked what I was. I am an American I would tell them and they were always asking, yes but from what country? Norway? Germany? Sweden? No, just an American! I think this hyphenation only seperates us. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, it helps me understand the workings of those who still have some tie to their ancestors. I don't.
