Private equity is a frightening thought for business founders as they must now face the real reason they have a business.
The big question for a founder to ask is Do I want to lead or Do I want to grow the wealth of my business? Research shows that it is the rare person who can do both. Richard Bransom is one or Bill Gates but how many more can you list?
Pete Peterson gives a very fair explanation of what private equity investors want. They want to focus on making your company worth more over five years, but they are going to do it the old fashioned way, through sweat and research and sleepless nights. Sure you can do some financial manipulations but Blackstone has done so well because it also puts in the management effort to develop the true potential of a company.
Exciting stuff!
