Going Mental

Saturday’s Big Idea

Gedankenexperiment

A thought experiment works like this: Considering a theory, hypothesis or conjecture in order to think through its consequences.

For the experimental philosopher Jonathon Keats, his thought experiments don't happen in his mind. He undertakes these experiments in the real world. And his most recent experiment -harnessing relativity to create time management systems - will be on exhibit at at Modernism Gallery in San Francisco.

In today's lesson, Keats demonstrates that technology doesn't have to make life more frenetic. Rather, it can give us the time to live.

What the World Needs is More Curious Amateurs

Call it art, experimental philosophy, theater, or what you will – Jonathan Keats plays the fool as a kind of public protest against the ever-present danger of taking ourselves and our understanding of the world too seriously.
