Saturday’s Big Idea

Today's Big Idea:

On his Hack the System blog, Maneesh Sethi responds to a reader who says he feels like a failure. As Sethi points out, "his problem isn’t in failing. It’s in his mindset."

According to Stanford professor Carol Dweck, people with a fixed mindset believe that their capabilities are predetermined and unlikely to change. People with a growth mindset, on the other hand, believe that "given enough effort and work, they can change. They believe that any skill is learnable, given enough time and effort."

Start by changing your mindset. Then you can take control of your behavior.

New York Times investigative reporter Charles Duhigg shows us how we can take control of our lives by changing our habits in his new book, The Power of HabitDuhigg told Big Think how he applied science to his own life, by eliminating his habit of having an unhealthy afternoon snack. In today's lesson, the same methodology applies to coping with your Facebook habit.

These lessons showcase two powerful tools for taking control of your life and changing the way you act.
