Today’s Big Idea: The New Culture of Learning

Everybody knows that the internet has unlocked learning potential that makes “chalk and talk” lectures as obsolete as the horse and buggy, but the among the hundreds of new online learning platforms, few have managed to effectively harness this potential. Those who are learning effectively online (for pleasure and profit) are doing so across a variety of platforms – websites, chatrooms, even massive multiplayer online videogames. 

There is no single curriculum that yet encapsulates these changes, but they are rapidly undermining traditional institutional knowledge-sources and reshaping the face of industry. John Seely Brown is one of the leading thinkers and practitioners of this new adaptive, collaborative, tech-driven learning approach. At the core of the new philosophy, he says, is the willingness to take risks and draw creative inspiration from a world in a constant state of flux.
