Today's Big Idea: Game Theory
Game theory has emerged in recent years as a powerful tool for understanding and predicting human behavior. Simply defined, it is a mathematical approach to modeling situations in which there are a limited number of rational decision makers.
Political game theorists presuppose that the primary motive of people in power is to remain in power, and model politicians' behavior on the basis of the power and ideology of their competitors and the size and nature of their constituencies.
This focus on individual motivation makes game theory a powerful tool for cutting through rhetorical smoke and mirrors and human action within real world games with a limited number of possible moves.
