Monday’s Big Idea

Today's Big Idea: Summer School for the Real World

We are picking up steam as we embark on the third week of Big Think’s Summer School for the Real World, a curated series designed to give you a crash course in the knowledge and skills you’ll need to thrive in the 21st century workplace.

Today's "visiting professor" penned more than 37 books in categories that span from literary fiction, to political monographs. Walter Mosley is an award-winning and critically acclaimed novelist whose range reflects his willingness to take risks and embrace failure. Failure, he says, is when real growth and real learning happens.

Every Monday for the next eight weeks, we'll bring you insights from thought leaders including Facebook’s first investor, Peter Thiel, on how to think beyond professional tracks, Reuters CEO Tom Glocer on what it takes to distinguish yourself in the eyes of an employer, and New Yorker writer Malcolm Gladwell on the secret of his success.
