Many people say that the United States of America is the new Roman Empire, and that is doomed to the same fate. What do you think?

It absolutely is. The “founding fathers” drew most of their ideas for our government from the Roman republic, incorporating more recent philosophy like Voltaire, Hobbes, Paine, etc. I’d say we’re about in the Marian Reforms phase. Bush wasn’t our Caesar, but he cleared his way.
I’m sort of surprised that they didn’t divide the office of president into smaller units, as the Romans had 2-3 consuls in office, typically. I think we could function very well as a better emulation of the Roman republic with the addition of our Bill of Rights.

Of course America is the new Rome. Its society is becoming divided-whether religiously or politically-, there are invasions (otherwise known as illegal immigration or people crossing an imaginary line)of people who don’t live here, a really terrible leader making poor economic, diplomatic and martial decisions-and is the main reason for a divided people-, citizens are becoming apathetic to their government and no longer want to keep it unified, express their patriotism, or even follow their government. The phrase “history repeats itself” is not a comment to be taken lightly anymore, especially by Americans themselves.

It is looking that way, we are becoming an empire and all empires fall sooner or later. Most of the time they they fall due to overspending the more places you try to control the more it cost. You do this until you become weak then your enemys strike or you do this until your currency becomes weak and again your enemys strike. Yes, We are Rome “Hail Ceaser”
