Nina Camara commented on David Rieff on the Death of Intellectualism on April 12, 2009, 5:53 PM
This post was really tedious to follow as the author made and impression he was just about to fall asleep. Anyway, it is an interesting topic, a rare showcase of American self-criticism. It is pretty much over for the U.S. IQ speaking as it seems. Who would have said that a few decades ago... Ah well, once you start to lower your standards and raise your demands it's a road to... dumbness and misery.

It is pretty much over for the U.S. IQ speaking as it seems. Who would have said that a few decades ago... Ah well, once you start to lower your standards and raise your demands (aka greed) it's a road to...and that's exactly where US is. Glad I'm European!

I think it is the unlimited confidence in their power what ultimately screwed the US up. Those in power were too sure of themeselves. I think it is healthy to have doubts about one's own abilities, or better saying be self-critical. That is what Americans have fotgotten and now they'll have to learn. I think it's going to be a painful...but well, their dream is now over so it's time to wake up and start anew.

I think Western Europe has been overzealously following the trends which the US set. Now, the recession is a real wake up call. There is an urgent need to have much more critical approach towards the Ameerican ideas . As it seems some of them are nothing but a lot of hot air.

I doubt that you can really craft a good documentary in a very short time slot (e.g. 10mins). Documentaries need to be elaborated well and by cutting their length will lead to lessening of the quality of their content.
