As being from the US, I believe that change to a language makes it more robust(obvious) and more semantically accessible to the intended audience. Now in most of these blogs the people have a specific audience. Furthermore this trend of blogging is a renaissance(very grandeur use of the word) for the written word. It has many people sharing random and/or poignant thoughts with the world. Will this lead to a new language, definitely not. But will it help adding to the language, certainly.

I personally subscribe to the idea of an ever expanding universe that started with a white hole. I see no reason why at a certain point of expansion would all matter try to compact to a singularity. Maybe certain points would(maybe explains galaxy clusters), I think the mass would keep expanding.

I really think the best way to spend $100b would be trough a piecemeal system. By setting extremely lucrative initiatives, I believe the money would be utilized most efficiently. Private research would spend lets say $500 million to capture a billion dollar prize to find build nanotechs for disease or viable transportation systems. And if you ask people for fifty to a hundred useful ideas that industry will research if they see immediate retribution, the list will fill very quickly.
