Christianity = The teachings of Christ. Other religions were created out of distrust and self-interests from Catholicism. This is demonstrated in Lutherism, read the '95 thesis' from Martin Luther, this was a product of going against an authortarian sect.

Interesting thing to note, "Christ" is greek. Comes from "Christos". Jesus didn't speak greek, and would probably have never recognized the word "Christ" or "Christianity". The religion of Christianity evolved many years after he died, and relies on second-hand accounts from various people of unverifiable authority.
Chances are, if Jesus were walking around today, he'd want nothing to do with the American evangelical leaders and hypocrites who thrive on corruption, violence and bigotry. Their heavy-handed holier-than-thou attitudes more resemble the pharisees whom Jesus despised.

I think the evangelical community is just another example of how people are so easily lead. People feel the urge to belong to a religion or group; as it makes their beliefs or lifestyle okay; and gives them a focus. As an emerging environmental activist; I say it's time we give everyone something REAL and truly worthwhile to put their focus on…saving our environment on a global scale. We will need everyone on board, it will be our biggest challenge humankind has ever faced.
