Good point about complexity automatically becoming opacity, especially when the whole thing is run by “executives” who pride themselves on not knowing “details”. But isn’t it also true in politics? Legislators vote on bills designed by “Specialists” without even reading them, much less understanding them, along with the usual unintended consequences. But the whole overspecialzed mess is a logical outcome of our fragmented society. Within a “family”, terrible consequences for the members would be mitigated, whatever the “costs”. But when Money Costs are trump, disasters can be expected. We would probably be better off if the Jeffersonian idea of not having a nation of wage-slaves was brought up to date and carried out. disigny

Royal Bank of Scotland was doing fine until it appointed non bankers as the leader. Then the traditional values were pushed aside for profit. If the head of the other banks did not follow suit, their Boards would have pushed them out as there were plenty of non-banker CEO types ready to have a go.
Bnakers lost sight of what business they are doing.
