China has either dammed or is planning to dam several rivers, drastically reducing the flow of fresh water to India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. One reason for China's actions is (and this isn't the only place) drought.
The United States is already having disputes over water supplies – for example, the Missouri River, which provides the drinking water for much of Kansas City and Omaha has occasionally had to ration water because of damming farther upstream.
