Very well put by a fine fellow Canadian. I think the dynamic between American unfettered free-markets and our Keynesian approach is where the majority our differing perspectives come from regarding healthcare, education, housing, social supports.

I don´t think its "either/or" – Keynes or Free-Markets. I believe its more a question of "and/and". As some of our current problems and challenges are pretty big an should/can not be reduced to some simple answers.

It matters not if U.S.citizens respect us.When they are done squandering their precious resources,(as we are)for the short term economic gain, dictated by predatory/global economics, who do you think they will invade next. After all it will be a matter of national security, to preserve the "american" way of life.

The majority of our differences come from our ruling elites rather than the bulk of individuals. Now that the Harper Conservatives/Rogers family are allied with groups like PNAC and others, the number of ideas available for democratic discussion are being restricted here in Canada as well.
But as to the original question—"Do Americans sufficiently respect Canadians?"—the answer is no. Not because Canada or Canadian ideas are (by virtue of not being Statesian) not worth respect (although that is often true), but because the vast majority of Statesians are scarcely aware that Canada exists. It should be noted that this blindness is encouraged because it also helps to restrict the number of new ideas coming into the culture.

Americans are arrogant and aggressive.

Canadians are arrogant and passive-aggressive.

(The above statements of course do not always apply but are worth thinking about.)
