The 20th century was one of the most violent centuries in human history. Great progress was made while hundreds of millions were killed in war. Is the spilled blood of last century a harbinger of what is to come or have we learned our lesson?

I'd like to believe we've learned the lessons of our past, I doubt much has changed. The current level of violence stems more from environment then from any change in human behavior. Scarcity of resources can put people in desperate circumstances and desperate people can do desperate things. In a few generations, populations will be even bigger and resources will be even smaller. Our real advantage is that we can predict these outcomes better then ever. We can better prepare ourselves for potential conflicts. We can educate ourselves better.
