Combining Physics and the Vedas of Hinduism, I believe that our soul/consciousness is essentially intelligent energy. Since energy cannot be created or destroyed, this intelligent energy with all its learning & karma, will , in course of time , find  a suitable womb to take birth again, in the circle of birth & death
