Laura Dragonetti commented on Am I really a conceited, condescending person, or do I really have a point? on January 19, 2008, 9:18 AM
You're right in a lot of what you said. People need to become more appreciative of what they have and stop ruining their lives when they really could go somewhere. At the same time, they're just humans. They have flaws and so do you. Maybe one of yours is feeling like you're surperior. I know it's definitely one of mine.
Laura Dragonetti commented on Why do we raise children with no interest in who they are? on January 19, 2008, 9:01 AM
I think that your observations have been of only the negative side. I know personally that my happiness, my sister's happiness, and my brother's happiness are very important to my parents. Though I know I'm lucky to have them I also know I'm not the only one who has great parents. The people you see are probably people who didn't really want to be parents in the first place. And what you see is awful, but we'll just have to hope that their children will be able to find love and happiness from other people, such as friends. We'll also have to hope in that their developpment they will be able to find some other kind of role model.

I find your arguement to be intriguing and to have several valid points, but I stand by my original statement.

To be honest, after this I stopped reading."Given that marijuana has killed not a single soul in the whole history of humankind" I'm pretty sure that if someone is high after smoking pot and they go driving that if they hit a pedestrian and kill them that marijuana has just killed someone. And I'm also quite sure that that has happened. I understand that marijuana can be necessary for medical reasons and can understand its use in such situations. I respect your opinion and will finish reading your idea, but I felt that I should address that initial statement.
I'm Laura. I'm a high school senior in a town in CT. I will attend Fordham University in the Bronx next year, studying to become a psychiatrist.
What else...I am usually liberal in my opinions. I don't follow any existing religions, though I respect the moral values that religion can give people who understand the religion that they follow. I support religious freedom.I am pro-choice, although I personally could never have an abortion.I am only intolerant of people who are intolerant. ;) I will respect you as long as you do not base your opinions of someone on gender, age, race, religion, sexual preference, or anything else of that sort.I believe that people who are overweight are condemned too severely by others. I believe that most people are self-destructive in some way and that just because obesity is a type of self-destructiveness that is clearly visual, that it should not be equated with ugliness.I am anti-war because I am anti-people dying.I am also against the death penalty. I believe people who committ crimes that could result in the death penalty should be instead sentenced to life in prison. That way their punishment is longer, but at the same time, they have the chance to at least think about who they were and develop a new sense of character before they die in their prison cell.Optimism or pessimism? On one hand, I would like to believe that there is some kind of goodness in everyone and that despite all of the evil in the world, underneath it all that in everyone there is that innocent child who knows nothing of murder and would never dream of doing so.On the other hand, I feel that war is a part of human nature and believe that despite world efforts to create long-lasting peace, that war will never end.I am sympathetic to suicide.I watch more tv than the average person, and have actually developped my morals from tv shows, despite the increasing presence of sex and violence.I am disgusted by the amount of people that abuse drugs and I think that people should find alternative ways to feeling 'high.' For example, try spinning around in circles, jumping on a trampoline, even just playing competitive sports (without steroids of course!) or playing music in front of an audience. Instead of seeking the high that drugs can give you, a rush of adrenaline can be just as satisfactory (not that I REALLY know, because I have never done drugs) and won't ruin your health or cause bad decision making. In terms of sex, I do not believe in abstinence until marriage, though I do respect the decision to abstain. I might not believe in abstinence, but I do believe in personal responsibility. I believe that if every person was analyzed that it would be determined that each one had some type of mental illness, only that certain cases are far more extreme than others. I believe that mental instability can be treated with medication, in addition to therapy.I believe in aliens. I believe in ghosts. I believe in (some) psychics.I hope to someday adopt several children. I don't want to bring anyone into this world knowing how cruel it can be, but want to help people who are already here to realize how beautiful it can be.I think that gun control should be stricter.I think stem cell research should be allowed.I think that students cheat too often.I believe everyone has a purpose and that everything happens for a reason.
Respect my views and opinions and I will respect yours. I have support for everything I said, though, regarding several political issues, I do not know 100% of the facts and doubt that you do.

To uberhenrik,I totally understand what you're saying. Yes marijuana doesn't literally kill anyone in the situation that I stated. However, you said it yourself. "...get in a car while not safe to do so." I'm just saying that marijuana can cause deaths. Although some people, perhaps yourself, are responsible enough to make decisions while high, too many people aren't and people die. Please no one bother to respond to my comment, because I'm never going to come back to this page. Seriously if you disagree with me, that's great. I just don't feel like arguing. I guess I was the wrong person to join this conversation. :)
