Should oil companies provide millions of reusable bags free of charge?

I'm proposing that oil companies band together (or individually, doesn't matter) and make and distribute millions and millions of reusable cloth grocery bags throughout the United States.  I'm suggesting an effort wide enough to provide Americans with enough free bags to replace the great majority of reusable bags over time. It would be a huge number. This would have several possible effects: 1. Repurposing of oil used to make plastic bags.  Approximately 12 million barrels of oil per year are used to make the plastic bags.  This is a drop in the bucket and would have minimal effect on gas prices (we burn through 20 million barrels per DAY in the USA), but with oil as expensive as it is, every little bit counts.  2. Reduction in the number of trees cut down for paper bags.  3. Good publicity and advertising.  Negatives: It's a money loser.  You'd be basically asking the oil companies to spend money in order to lose a revenue stream.  It's a question of whether the positive publicity and free advertising would offset this. … Read More

So much of what drives conflict in our world today is driven by the fact that the changes in our world have outpaced evolution. People would be less territorial and guided by self interest, for example, if it didn't interfere with the brain's competitive impulses. So I see it as impossible, because even millenia into the future, when we've evolved to adjust to reality, those changes will still be too slow, and will again reflect a world long goneI think there's no possibility of a utopia because evolution's too slow to allow it.

For there to be a legitimately post-racial candidate, we'd have to honestly be able to say we were living in a post-racial America. The fact that we have to ask whether Obama is post-racial means that he clearly is not. And this has nothing to do with him one way or the other. It's got to do with us, and our media.Consider the following:Just about all of Obama's negatives, besides a lack of experience, have centered around race. There is his inability to reach white working class voters, coupled with the Rev. Wright issue that have made it clear for me. Is America ready for a Black President? Maybe.A post racial candidate? Never, ever. We've got a post racial candidate when nobody mentions his race. That will never happen.

I think there's nothing. Fade to black. For those who believe in an afterlife, I do have to ask 'why'?The universe tends toward simplicity. What would the reason be for an afterlife? I understand the reasons that people would WANT an afterlife, but I don't understand why there would or should be one.
