When I first heard of this program I was amazed at the vision and the horsepower driving this idea forward.

………..a moment later I questioned how all the ego's in this endeavor, could be checked at the door so the goal could be achieved.

I am not surprised about the controversy. Even though Bill Gates has a history of Philanthropy, Microsoft's corporate image is one of a seek and destroy corporate culture. I would question wether the independence of this program could be maintained.

I personally am a fan of open source. But I would also bow to the powers that can make sure this program's goals, are achieved.

Whatever it takes………….acheive this goal!

The program started out as a wonder of rediscovering what information technology could do for education. Now it has been sabotaged by the West's corporate oligarchs and is failing before it could actually start. If anything OLPC is an embarrassment of the continued imperialism that defines western european civilization.

The idea that one should be fearful of putting generative technology in the hands of children or regular people as a whole is abhorrent. “There’s already enough spam and junk out there” – really? Is that really an enlightened point of view, that one horse’s ass should be the sole arbiter of value and exercise control over who gets to attempt to generate it?
