what will the city of the future look like? How will we or will we have zero emissions cities? The Chinese already have one such ZEC (zero emissions city) on the drawing board. Will the US get on board? On Star Trek Voyager in the episode 11:59, Captain Janeway learns that her ancestor convinced the last hold-out on the millenium project to give in. The project could be described as an eco-city. The city is self contained and shaped roughly like a wheel with one large spire in the centre and spokes radiating out from the ground floor of the spire and an outer ring surrounding the whole… Read More

I read an article in the journal "Science" recently about flexible batteries. Seems to me that there is a good possibility of having these in the next decade. Flexible batteries along with flexible PLEDs will make the flexible auto updating newspaper a reality, in addition to that if it ever gets to the point that the PLED can be written on there won't be a need for paperwork because people will be able to write on the "paper" and transmit it wherever it needs to go then just update the "paper" with the next form and move on it'll save many trees and be as easy as real paper to read. Ba… Read More

When will humanity figure out how to apparently exceed the speed of light. I say apparently exceed, because according to men like Spanish Physicist Miguel Alcubierre one can appear to exceed the speed of light, without violating relativity's prohibition. You're welcome to disagree, but please offer opinions Read More

Who is the most intelligent candidate?
Jimmy Carter has been called the most well educated president of the United States (it was in a documentary on climate change, not Al Gore's I don't think) of the current candidates, who most closely matches Mr Carter. Think about not just politics or law or business, but the sciences as well. My bet for most well educated candidate is none of the above, they're all specialists who don't know much outside of their area of expertiese, they have advisors for that Read More

Re: Will we live in a world with frequent citizen space-travel?
I wish. It might happen, eventually, but it won't be through NASA. We will have to use craft like White Knight and Spaceship 1 or something else to get there, because the cost of space travel is still very high, a trip on Virgin Galactic will cost $200K, which is doable for some, but not all, and let me further add that VG is only offering sub-orbital flights. Nobody is yet talking about scheduled orbital/lunar flights for civilians. Think that's about the size of it, not yet, but we can hope and dream, we need to because we'll never get there if people don't dream about it, and then fo… Read More

Is ethanol a handout to the agricultural lobby?
By now, most people have heard of ethanol, and know it can be made from corn, really anything which contains hydrogen and carbon can be a fuel, but I digress. Should ethanol become big, which it will take about five to ten years to get cars made which can run on E85 or pure ethanol on the road in large numbers with fueling stations in all 50 states. If ethanol becomes big, by which I mean it supplants petrol (gasoline in the US), it will push the price of corn up and should provide a stable price for corn, great news for farmers, and assuming the government cuts back on agricultur… Read More
