I would say instead that the one thing that makes us so different is the ability to adapt to the unexpected. I was watching a documentary on what the world will be like in 50 years or so, and they were explaining how machines would be doing surgery for us instead of doctors. This would prevent mistakes, but they also said that there is no way that they can think of to make it so when something goes wrong in a surgery that was unexpected, that they would not have a way to instill the information that they would need to rationalize and make a dicision on their own.

I've always looked at college as an avenue to explore many fields that one finds interesting. I disagree with how students focus on one study. If I wanted to do that I would go to a trade school. Mr. Pinker's idea that ideas come from combining information from many sources deepens my belief.

Of course not. Biologicaly the only reason we look for a mate is to reproduce. I read an article in Time magazine that said that women and men will unintentionaly look for traits in a partner that make them look more fertile. For men a broad chest and strong shoulders that suggest high levels of testosterone. For men a woman with large breasts and a low waist to hip ratio that suggests fertility. Mating is about keeping the species alive and to believe it is unjust to want one of your own goes against our human nature.
