Jacoline Loewen commented on Richard Dowden Laments the Robert Mugabe Problem on April 12, 2009, 8:48 PM

Who financed Robert Mugabe? That will tell you what happens next. Richard, you have great compassion and you are touched by Zimbabwe. Mugabe was educated by Jesuits and was recognized to be intelligent. Was he evil early on or only later in his career? He was a military leader and he used mutilation of Shona farm workers to force co-operation. The controlled use of violence is a powerful way to gain power and Mugabe used violence and fear before he even gained power. Richard, I can see you are a very thoughtful and respectful commentator and you want to see the best in people. I wonder what the Jesuits who taught Mugabe would say about the young boy? I think Mugabe has thought of himself and not of his people or nation. Now the chickens have coe home to roost. His war campaign was rumoured to be funded by the Chinese and there are murmurs of him retiring in Hong Kong.

Royal Bank of Scotland was doing fine until it appointed non bankers as the leader. Then the traditional values were pushed aside for profit. If the head of the other banks did not follow suit, their Boards would have pushed them out as there were plenty of non-banker CEO types ready to have a go. Bnakers lost sight of what business they are doing.

Jacoline Loewen commented on What does Africa need? on March 23, 2009, 4:31 AM

Government is there to serve their nation, not their tribe nor their own personal cult. No more shopping trips to Harrods or excusing a leader's erratic behaviour because he was a war hero, etc. There are up and coming government Africans who understand human dignity and who seek policies and actions to support this idea. Also, Africans are embracing universal values but the one that will be the most difficult is to see others as equal and get beyond race and tribal affiliations.
