Tilghman is worried about the fact that the way we define ourselves, in terms of race and ethnicity, is driving conflict in the world, especially terrorism.
I worry about how we define identity. I worry about the impact of race and ethnicity on how individuals define themselves and how they define the “other”, and the degree to which conflict in the world is being driven by the way we define ourselves in those categories.
