The idea of life after death is - among other things - a way for people to invite themselves to think of their own death freely in order to distract themselves from life. Without this idea, many people find a final death as too depressing to think about. Perhaps one could seize thinking about death and occupy him/herself with thoughts of what there is to be done during life, for the benefit of one's own life and others, present or future, as well. I fear that many people have worried far too little about their current life because of their assumption that a following life would be the final and most important one. These people might stall many would-be-significant actions only to find (or lack the ability to find) that their death is, in fact, final and what was important all along has now been lost. Death is death, try and live with it.

The theory is that energy cannot be created or destroyed. So based on that theory, how can you say that nothing happens after death? I believe there is much more to it than that. I’m not saying we go to heaven or hell, but that something must happen to the “energy” that existed in our body, mind and spirit. Did you ever consider that?

Regardless of personal beliefs, it is impossible to dispute the meaning or purpose people find within their “physical” lives through religeon. I myslef am a christian and can honestly say i haven’t felt as though i’ve wasted any time on this earth trying to comfort myself from the thought of death. Before building a case against an afterlife based on sence of purpose or lack there of, you should know that the entire reason for an independant spiritual relationship with god is to find your purpose, to fill your life with positives. Obviously we’ve all figured out that death is inevitable, and i would rather live a life of passion and faith than one of drab logic and empty deeds the world would have me live.

I’ll start by saying that I agree with Kiki8’s point about energy. I certainly don’t know what comes after. I’ve read a fair few ideas. I kind of like what C.S. Lewis put together in his book “The Great Divorce” It’s point is that who and what we are here in essence, activity and thought tends to go with us just in a different form. Now it strikes me that if that is the case the “Now” of my actions is even more important. A great case for a life well lived.

Using the law of conservation of energy to try and prove there is something after death is a very flawed argument. The energy inside you is not a soul or spirit or some sort of romanticized entity. The energy inside you is the food that is converted into energy used to power your brain and the rest of your body. Depending on what is done with your body after the energy contained in your body is converted into different things. For example if you are buried the energy is transferred to the ground as you decompose or to whatever animal consumes your body.

I beleive that waiting for people after death is absolutly nothing. From what I’ve read to what I’ve contemplated, it makes no sense to me that there would be any magical world (like heaven/hell) or another demension filled with spirits of the dead. Convincing me of the idea of a heaven is like trying to convince me that what magicians like Criss Angel do is real. The that leader of society created and adopted the religious idea of an afterlife is to give citizens of their nations an otherworldly consequence for poor behavior. Now let me preface this final comment by saying, I’m no Hippie. I live my life in the here and now, I am not living my life waiting for and expecting somthing else, and I encourage all others to do the same. Don’t wait for somthing better make now better.
