As a highschool senior it has become an observation of mine through the past six years that cheating has become normal. Why is it that there are not enough negative consequences to cheating to minimize its existence? I think that too many students have rationalized cheating or categorized their behaviors as 'not cheating.' Some students can blame their actions on the pressures of society to be successful, but it is my opinion that cheating is the result of a loss of integrity. If students really feel so much pressure to succeed, why don't they just do their work? (I realize it is not that simple for everyone, but I'm saying that for people growing up in middle to upper class communities that the average student who cheats could just do the work and be fine, but does not because of some kind of loss in motivation to actually try.) There should be stricter policies placed over students and teachers in order to prevent cheating.

You%u2019re absolutely right, I think the integrity of people is declining. I don’t think that cheating is really the whole thing. But addressing it, I think it has more to do with money. People see education as the path to riches and success (Most of the time) But the information that is being taught is not helping us get rich. And this is my best example:
I’m not the average person and I like that. However, when it comes to reading, I’m at a little bit of a disadvantage. I’m just slow. So while the rest of the class is discussing what we just read, I’m still reading. So when I go into my class with NO notes, NOTHING prepared, not having even read the book, I participate in a prepared debate, I SHOULDN’T get a freakin 86%. But I did, and I don’t care, because that class was a joke. I didn’t learn anything about English. I learned the Apocalypse Now was based on the book Heart Of Darkness. But I didn’t learn anything. And it’s not entirely the teachers fault. But if I’m not getting anything out of it, and they can’t tell the difference if I do the work right or not, WHY the hell would I waste my time doing something that “The government” tells me to read, when I could get it over with quicker and use the rest of my time for things like photography, cooking, teaching myself how to play the guitar or deciding which bank to bank with and which credit card to apply for. These are the things we need to be teaching and if they were, I’d tell you I wouldn’t be caught DEAD GUESSING which credit card to apply for, cause in a Capitalistic world, The world is out to screw you.
