Question: How does one age well?
Bill Novelli: Well I think there’s a formula. And the formula is not a deep secret. The way to age well, I think, is to stay mentally and physically active. And then the obvious things: you know eat well, don’t smoke, those kinds of things. Get plenty of exercise. But mental and physical activity are the most important things that people can do to age well.

My uncle was a family doctor and had a practice for 50 years. I remember him saying this “If you don’t use it, you lose it!” He had elderly patients buy sneakers and walk around their dining room tables twenty times a day! Whenever anyone asked him about certain foods and diets or an exercise program he always said " Everything in moderation is the best way to go." He gave prescriptions when needed, and sometimes said a drug wouldn’t help and had you do something else- like send you to a physical therapist or a psychologist. He believed in listening to people and basing his treatment partially on what they told him. He was always reading and walking and socializing; and working until the age of 80 He lived to the age of 88 and was healthy until the very end.
