when I move from computer to more traditional media, I (sometimes) wish I had a control-Z key, to undo what I just did, or the ability to save different versions of the same project.
there are many benefits, but i believe it is a personal preference. i enjoy traditional methods over digital. it seems i have more control over the drawing or painting, and i can produce marks that i couldnt otherwise in digital art.
In reference to comments by cspartz and Colin: Since 1991 I’ve worked my way “up” through numerous Macs, digital cameras, etc. I’ve lost track of the actual history of some of my works because of the number of times they have gone in and out of Photoshop. I love both but increasingly “digital” is a tool that supports my primary “traditional” work. My control-Z is my digital camera. It takes a little longer but provides both a record and insight. iPhoto, especially ’08, makes it very easy to document the evolution of a traditional work. Also, my iMac based system is so sophisticated it is relatively transparent. As danhi77 eloquently points out, digital is now pervasive. It is a very useful tool. RPD1
