Graham Orr commented on Rick Warren on a Purpose-Driven Life on February 16, 2009, 5:11 AM

The meaning of life? You really want it, Rick Warren? There is none. We make our own meanings based upon the degree of mental conditioning we have. You simply rely on the scripture to tell you what to do instead of thinking for yourself. Your interpretation of the world around you is first-order and is prone to heavy error. In this day and age, it will be the ignorant religious who pull down the rest of society. How dare you preach your filth! Let the coming generations explore the world with untainted eyes and minds... the superstitions the church teaches may have worked in the dark ages but its days are numbered. Science >> Religion. Actually, there is no comparison. P.S. Evolution/natural selection made religion. As our level of abstraction increased, our psychological necessities grew. In a harsh world, it is advantageous to believe that a god is going to help you through a tough time. Likewise, religion brings increases community cohesion (at least in basic forms) which can lead to better survival. Though there is perhaps no "religion gene" the mental susceptibility and behavioral conditioning is passed from one generation to the next.

There is no personal god, if any god at all.The concept of "god" came from humans having psychological necessity to explain things we can't explain and feel like we have something watching over us.The Universe is indifferent. It is not hostile nor forgiving. It just exists and we just happen to stochastically exist in this moment through the deterministic manifestations of sensitive dependence on initial conditions.Meaning of life: There is none.God: There is none (unless you speak of the Spinozan/Einstein "god")Future: We make it what we want.Confidence in above statements: I'll bet my childrens' lives on it.

Graham Orr commented on How do you deal with your success? on January 4, 2009, 4:45 AM

"Stick to whatever it is you think you know and don't make comments or judgements on Christian's, who spend their life's making this world better; while you just whine and do nothing."Now this is a hilarious comment. Me do nothing?! Ha! I'm actively investing my life into the study of the long-term survival of the species with particular advancements in space propulsion and power systems... not to mention adaptive "smart structures" more energy efficient electric motors and new numerical algorithms for heterogeneous reaction regressions. What are you doing with your life?

power = Torque x speedif speed refers to angular rateso I guess Tai Chi Jin = power. real clever.

No, I don't understand.... Because as an engineer/scientist the first thing I check are the dimensions...you are claiming:E = 1/(V^3 * c^2) , correct?Let's check the units:(kg m / s^2) =?= s^2 / (m^5)NOPE!Perhaps you meant this:E = c^2 / V^3kg m / s^2 = 1 / (m s^2)NOPE! That doesn't work either.I doubt you've published in any type of peer-reviewed journal. This wouldn't have made it past the mail slot.
