Sir John Betjeman
"Sir John Betjeman published his poem about Slough in 1937. I read it when I was about 14, a few miles down the road from Slough in Reading. It had a profound effect on me, and years later I tried to capture some of the mood and sentiment of it in The Office."

"This Global Village idiot is the funniest man alive"
"Anything by Karl Pilkington. He sees the world differently. A true artist. And idiot. Did I mention he was an idiot? Just search youtube or buy one of his books. Or read about him on rickygervais.com. He features regularly as I want to spread the word of this bald, spherical headed prophet."
