I couldn’t agree more on the social issue. When I was designing and building upscale homes, I tried to make my designs have a feeling of success but also comfort and welcoming. I wanted my client to feel relaxed and successful at the same time. But now I realize that all I was doing is telling them that it is ok to work 60 plus hours per week and totally ignor the rest of society.

The front lawn and the face of a home can have an healing effect while entering the drive after a hard day at work. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s it seems that the larger the urban lot you owned, the more successful you where.

You are so right about water usage. We can grow attractive edible landscapes. I used red and green cabbage in one of my front scapes last year. It would please me to see neighbors browsing one anothers lawns instead of browsing the web.
