Sorry, this is a totally false quote that is being perpetuated as fact. It is no more true than "money does not grow on trees" (It does, ask any Kona Coffee Farmer or orange grower) Many things we were taught are not relevant if you understand the big picture.

I somewhat agree with the sentiments of writer on the hyphenated American situation. Do we really need to distinguish people as African-Americans or Mexican-Americans? However, I believe we have more of a class problem than a racial problem. Low class people of any culture or color are likely to find others do not want to be around them or include them freely in their daily lives. Improve education and you help eliminate class differences which create fear and loathing.
