I wish we could stick to the "Don't get in the way with foreign relations" concept that we had set up when Washington became President. Don't you?

I find it fascinating that Mr. Armitage describes 'oxygen, gasoline, a spark and a conflagration' coming together as though these were forces of nature that simply came together apart from anyone's bidding and he seems unconcious of the idea that some people might actually bear some responsibility for bringing these explosive elements together. Surveying a hundred thousand civillians killed and millions of Iraqi refugees created, Mr Armitage's view seems to be along th lines of "Oh well, shit happens." It is no wonder that the idea he might bear some personal responsibility seems beyond him, or is too deeply repressed to confront.
