This kind of irrational bible literalism will result in the downfall of the human race. It's that simple. With are on the brink of total self-annihilation, and if it comes, it will come because of the likes of this man. It is a bizarre and terribly troubling state of affairs that there are still individuals on this planet who invest their beliefs in unsubstantiated dogma and superstition, given all that we know about the world. There is, frustratingly, almost no point in engaging with such people, as they are incapable of rational discourse. Go read some Sam Harris.

It is a mistake to dismiss this mans ideas just because you have a prejudice against the religious. The idea of stewardship is shared amoung many belief systems and is easily derived agnosticly. In my experience being evangelical does not eliminate having good judgement. And while the bible thumping, power hungry, fear mongering scum you see on Fox News are problematic, this veiw on stewardship is consistant with good living.

Re: Re: Re: How should the Bible be interpreted?
Religion is a forum to bring people together and is a method to create civilization just like philosophy or science. That being the said, the real threat to humankind isn’t the extremes, it’s the center. At the center there is no motion. Without motion, it becomes stagnant and dies. Sam Harris complements Richard Cizik in that they are both unreasonable with their fundamentalisms. Therefore, they are essential for humankind to evolve intelligently. Life is a potluck. Mind what you bring.
