Huiming Yin is an associate professor at the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science at Columbia University. Before arriving at Columbia, Yin worked in the materials engineering and testing services section of the California Department of Transportation. His current research interests include sustainable engineering and materials, such as energy efficient buildings, hybrid solar panels, protective coatings, recycled materials, and intelligent transportation infrastructureand systems. His research innovations include building an integrated multifunctional roofing panel, a solar-heating-power-storage system, a sun tunnel, polymer strain and fracture sensors, and an OMITS system.
Yin received his B.E. in engineering mechanics from Hohai University, Nanjing, China in 1995, his M.S. degrees in solid mechanics from Peking University, Beijing, China, in 1998, and his Ph.D. degree in structural mechanics and materials from The University of Iowa, in 2004.
Yin is a Big Think Delphi Fellow.
