Arthur Matas

Director, The Renal Transplant Program at the University of Minnesota

Arthur Matas is a professor of surgery and the director of the Renal Transplant Program at the University of Minnesota, where he has been since 1988. Matas is an outspoken proponent for government-regulated kidney sales, which he believes would help lessen the tremendous shortage of kidneys in the US. He is currently president of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. 

Dr. Matas was featured in Big Think's "Month of Thinking Dangerously," contributing the dangerous idea that we should be allowed to sell our kidneys to people who need them for transplants.
