Any industry, whether it is healthcare or other, has one objective and that is to maximize shareholder value. This creates a focus on profits. If the industry is left unregulated, how do we create a system that focuses on customer health in lieu of short-term profits? Without some sort of controls, I am not sure how we can fix a system that focuses mostly on profits, is an insurance based reactionary system instead of a preventative system, and does not allow for control by the user.
