Well, large scale obsession doesn't happen overnight. I think something lead to widespread loneliness and isolation, which caused a void, which we sought to fill with stuff, which lead to more isolation and this viscious cycle eventually led to an obsession with stuff rather than an obsession with not feeling lonely.

I definitely agree. Products should serve us, but instead, we serve them because there's this manufactured sense of need created, in part, by a sense of loneliness and emptiness.How many people are on your island? 2? More than 2?

Thank you for reminding me that there is also good. I had lost perspective. I guess conscientious people should focus on doing and encouragin good and not to get caught up in the rat race.BTW, how did you find this idea? I'm just curious to know.

Incresingly, it seems like we're moving away from the ideas of family, society, collective responsibility. We're moving more and more toward individuality. Every man for himself. I comes before U. We don't look to each other for support. We look at each other as competition. Instead of helping each other, we're jealous, self-involved, scared, fighting, greedy. Sharing is out. Hoarding is in. If the universe were whole, then we wouldn't experience time. We wouldn't experience change. We wouldn't experience anything. Could this have been the point of the Big Bang? To create a stage for experiences, rather than having everything sitting around bored?
