I particularly liked David Rubenstein's definition of private equity as "the effort made by individuals" because this shows the action or the energy of this special type of financing. If you were at a conference on capital, the majority of presenters or experts would define private equity by the size of deal or the structure of deal. In contrast, this humanistic definition by the founder of Carlyle tells me why his company has succeeded where so many have failed.
