David Brown commented on What is meant by "The surge is working" and "Win the war in Iraq"? on February 28, 2008, 1:41 PM

We have been told that violence is down and the surge is working. We should all be thankful for this and hope for the violence to end completely. But is the surge responsible for the decrease in violence. I heard (somewhere) that the main reason for the drop in violence was a decrease in the weapons sent by Iran into Iraq. If so, I don%u2019t see a direct relationship between the violence and Iran%u2019s willingness to supply the insurgents.Rather the recent intelligence revelation that Iran was not developing nuclear weapons would seem more causal. One could speculate that the administration agreed not to attack Iran if Iran limited its weapon supply to the Iraqi insurgents. One way to firm up such an agreement would be to state that Iran was not pursuing nuclear weapons.

David Brown commented on John McCain: Is the American govenment too secretive? on January 17, 2008, 4:19 PM

It seems the administration does everything it can to keep its activities hidden. Indeed, much of what comes out of the White House seems confusing and illogical. It is difficult to believe that the administration%u2019s need for secrecy stems from national security. I certainly believe there are activities that should be kept secrete, however, our open borders and confusing enforcements of border traffic would seem to belie any attempt at security. I applaud your stand on this issue.

David Brown commented on John McCain: Is ethanol overhyped? on January 17, 2008, 3:45 PM

I agree, current evidence suggest corn and soybeans are poor choices for alternate fuels. Using either for fuel substitutes will be inefficient and drive food cost up. The only ones who will benefit will be those receiving the subsidies. But shouldn%u2019t we look carefully at using sugar cane or switchgrass as potential energy alternatives.
