I agree. I recently worked for a company that went bankrupt, and as such COBRA is not an option for me. I found that HIPPA guarantees coverage but for me and my family of four it is over $1,800USD per month! And the coverage is lousy with 2,000USD deductibles. Private insurance is not available to either me or my wife due to a thyroid condition and prior treatment for depression. So, even though we are in good health and only incur minor medical expenses (about $40 per month on prescription medicine) – WE CAN NOT OBTAIN private insurance AT ANY COST. So, I cant afford HIPPA guaranteed coverage and I can not obtain private insurance. Where am I to go?

The private market has failed in my opinion and it furthermore shows me that our society is cruel and inhumane on this issue. As a final note, I am 51 years old, have always held a job since I was 21 with only 3 months unemployment during that time. I have paid my taxes, never committed a crime, have a clean DMV record, saved a decent amount for retirement and otherwise have been what most people would consider a "model citizen". God forbid if I had been disadvantaged in other ways. In my mind, we must have national health care coverage and we need it now. This is a disgrace on all of us and I must say I am ashamed to be an American. If I were running for President, there is no way I would wear a Flag-lapel pin until we fix some very fundamental issues with our national priorities.
