I agree with your inclination towards taoism; any thorough contemplation of life leaves one with little question that it's A) utterly futile (once you know about black holes and colliding universes, physics in general, it's all clearly meaningless in any purpose we could place on it)B) completely guided by chaos (see above) and, further, conciousness is clearly the "evil"; DNA is the ultimate bad guy. Galaxies slowly consume each other throughout the universe and we can see clearly in that detached breaking and reconnection of chemical bonds that the process is beautiful when you have no nervous system to register the events.C) Finally, recognition of these absolute truths has led ultimately to cultural anarchy in the past and in fact always will; enter the self-serving and our current, ultra-distalled, pure forms of mind control, organized religion.

Women are definately taught to be less opionated than men; my religious father actually told my husband a few years ago he needed to control me better and my husband laughed at him. He stopped speaking to both of us shortly after that..lol.I think the "playing" on the internet thing is a good guess, however, I'd venture that women tend to congregate in more social internet settings, which I, being a woman, am always drawn to, but ultimately turned off by due to the boring conversations going on. You may be familiar with the chatroom/message board phenomena of "regs" which I deplore. The great thing about the internet is meeting new and fascinating people you never have to talk to again..lol. I find anywhere online and in life that I am more drawn to male environments (with the exception of sports), for companionship. It's very difficult to discuss things ideologically dear to me such as sexuality, population control, and atheism without making some social faux pas with women, where with drinking men nothing is taboo. My intellectual feminine beacon is the historical/mythical Hypatia.

I COMPLETELY agree that 1 billion is better for all species than 6 billion! There is no reason other than the monetary manipulation of human reproduction (sex) via religion the past 100 years that we're where we are now, at almost 7 billion. The fact is, Malthus was right. The only thing that kept us from his dire predictions was the Green Revolution in agriculture, which Norman Bourlag warned at the time was merely a stop-gap and we needed to reduce our numbers immediately. Rather than heeding the second warning however, the greedy corporate barons squelched the secular, over-population movement in the 70's and created a religious, breeding movement in the 80's that caused the catastrophic foreign aid policies that the US has today.

Absolutely religion is the number one issue keeping sensible population policy from being adopted worldwide. However, we have to look behind the curtain to see where the money is coming from to fund religious opposition to population control, when anyone with a basic understanding of human behaviour and math can see that we're shooting ourselves in the foot by our rampant over-population and birth control policies. The biggest driver behind continued world population growth is the people selling things that are already being consumed by everyone; oil, food, etc... If population growth were to plateau, so would their profits. If population were to DECLINE, so would their profits. For instance; here in the US the same corporations that back our conservative politicians that rabidly attack women's rights are the same corporations funding conservative talk dominance in media and the mega-churches that tell all their members to breed like bunnies while the preachers are flaming homosexual entertainers. (I'm not suggesting there is anything wrong with homosexuals, in fact quite the opposite. It's just curious that so many fundamentalist christian leaders are so blatantly gay and clearly in their position precisely due to their inclination for the dramatic and ability to entertain and indoctrinate.)
31 year old nurse; married 14 years to the most beautiful, brilliant man alive; we're deliberately childless polyamourists. I drink too much, talk too loud and often, and contemplate the futility of existance every waking moment.

I think this is a great query! Besides the pure desire to trudge onward, there is no other "purpose" or meaning in life. That's why i try to follow the Epicurean model for experiencing as much pleasure as I can but also, OPTIMIZING that pleasure through deliberate periods of abstinance such as not drinking during work or eating rich foods constantly, because those acts make the pleasure meaningful. However, it's all ultimately futile and we can attach whatever simplistic or complicated meanings we want to it. Anyone, of any age, of any health should be allowed to end their life if they so desire, and access to humane assistance in doing so is a human right.
