This is a fantastic point. Much of the West has lost the motivation to learn in a world of entitlement. Ultimately, the lasting legacy of the recession could be a change in perspective among Americans, who suddenly have to overcome the education lag to rise out of a troubling economic time. Of course, a fundamental change in the way American children learn math and science would probably help as well.
