knowing that your life, and what you do on a day to day basis is your world. but think about all the stuff you do in one day. times a gajillion people in the world. its weird to think that other things are going on while your life is being lived. ive never really thought about it. and further more, what is out purpose on this planet? im not religious, and im not convinced with science. its just that all ive done with my life is complain and nit pick over little things. but its only been 14 years since ive been alive, and at this very moment, it seems like ive wasted my life. i want a purpose i can be pround of. so what is the meaning of life?

What is our purpose in life? We are here to make a difference in each other’s lives. Sometimes it is in small ways like visiting a nursing home and doing hair and make up on the ladies and talking to them about everything under the sun. To something so big as being the person who finds the cure for cancer. No matter what it is that we do we want to the world to be a better place for having been here.
“Complaining and nit picking” your way through life is a negative way to live. Every moment of everyday you have the choice and the power to be happy and content with yourself. You’ve seen the result of that thinking why not change your thinking? Instead of looking for the crappy stuff to complain about look for something good instead. If you think you could have done it better, next time get involved and do so.
good luck

Hi MusicPeace: it’s good that such a young person is thinking about the meaning of her own life. But as you go through life, you will see that many people try to present their philosophy as the only valid one. That’s not true. Keep a wary eye on those who preach to you and do not become a follower! Eventually you will find your own beliefs and with it, your own philosophy on life, it’s meaning and even IF there is one. Believe me, your philosophy will change over the duration and by the time you become middle aged you may well not recognize the person you once were!
Shakespeare said “This to thine own self, be true!”. That struck a chord deep within me, long ago and I find it still the most important philosophy. How I interpret it is this: “no matter who is looking at you, act with regard only to your own basic sense of decency. Do the right thing, always and never tread on someone else to get where you are going”. If you follow that idea, you will be a good person and people may like you or hate you for it but that inner sense of self-worth will carry you forward on the right path.

Please see my Idea on “What is the Meaning of Life?”
Now for my SARCASTIC comment: our purpose is to goto work everyday, eat preservatives, don’t bother exercising daily as it doesn’t make you feel good, watch television, don’t read books – they are evil, watch sports but don’t play sports, retire and do nothing, die and go to some very boring place called “Heaven”, or “Hell” which sounds more exciting.

When my now 18 year old daughter was around 3, she asked that question and after a few days of discussion announced that she had an anwswer. She said that she’s pretty sure we’re here to help each other. She must have mulled over a number of other possibilities and the one she came up with was the only one she couldn’t find an argument against. I still think she’s right about that. It’s a difficult thing to do and few of us succeed, but I think if we make it our goal to help other people even just a little, or even remotely by sending out good thoughts, it works. musicpeace32, when you are much older, I promise you will look back at your 14 year old self and marvel at how incredibly amazing you are and you’ll be glad you have the type of mind that asks questions like that.
