One one hand, I think Mr. Lieb is undervaluing larger causes. You can make a large cause important in your life without throwing away the rest of your life, and I believe working for what you believe in is very important. Yet, at the same time, I feel that he is right about the importance of those closest to you, and you should not let other aspects in your life drive you from them.

The question of whether or not we will want to use technologies that directly create a state of happiness is very interesting. On one hand, what is the purpose of being happy when that is all there is to experience? When there is no contrast? Yet, at the same time, will we care?
