Brandon Hill commented on Will The DVR Save Television From A Slow Death? on June 4, 2009, 4:00 PM

I have just now discovered the wonders of DVR, which is quite interesting considering that I'm in the tech industry. Moving into my first house, and having to setup utilities on my own, I went ahead and sprung for DVR and Digital Cable when setting up my RoadRunner internet. After being in my house for about a month, I just used the DVR functionality for the first time last night. I wanted to see Dave Matthews Band on Jimmy Fallon, but couldn't bring myself to stay up until ~ 1:20 AM to catch them. I set the machine to record, I fell asleep around 9:30 PM, and I was able to watch it this morning. I got to skip through Fallon's rantings and commercials and got straight to the performance at the end of the show. Although it's taken me years to have a first-hand experience with DVR, I now know that I will be using it much more often in the future. I can see how advertisers would be upset with people skipping commercials, but the cat is already out of the bag. People have already been pampered by the convenience of DVR/Tivo, so there's no going back. The industry is just going to have to wake up, embrace the change, and find some new way to monetize the platform.

Brandon Hill commented on Michael Sandel Frames the Stem Cell Debate on June 4, 2009, 3:30 PM

I think it's quite interesting where we are going with research into using stem cells. While the are numerous political and religious concerns revolving around the use of embryonic stem cells, it's quite breathtaking to see the advances that scientists are making with adult stem cells. The most recent advance I've seen is the use of adult stem cells to allow patients that were legally blind to see again: http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,25550134-2702,00.html
