What is Big Think?

We are Big Idea Hunters…

We live in a time of information abundance, which far too many of us see as information overload. With the sum total of human knowledge, past and present, at our fingertips, we’re faced with a crisis of attention: which ideas should we engage with, and why? Big Think is an evolving roadmap to the best thinking on the planet — the ideas that can help you think flexibly and act decisively in a multivariate world.

A word about Big Ideas and Themes — The architecture of Big Think

Big ideas are lenses for envisioning the future. Every article and video on bigthink.com and on our learning platforms is based on an emerging “big idea” that is significant, widely relevant, and actionable. We’re sifting the noise for the questions and insights that have the power to change all of our lives, for decades to come. For example, reverse-engineering is a big idea in that the concept is increasingly useful across multiple disciplines, from education to nanotechnology.

Themes are the seven broad umbrellas under which we organize the hundreds of big ideas that populate Big Think. They include New World Order, Earth and Beyond, 21st Century Living, Going Mental, Extreme Biology, Power and Influence, and Inventing the Future.

Update on Life: The Visual Study

Missing

I have recently begun a one year intensive study on film at a school in San Francisco. My main goal is to learn how to tell stories in a visual medium. Being able to convey your ideas visually will become increasing important as my generation takes hold (words? we don’t need no stinkin words) and ...

I was riding in a car with my dad on the last leg of a father/son roadtrip today and we both noticed a magnificent Hawk flying nearby. I’ve enjoyed some European Travel, and I need to get some more places. After school (and probably grad school) I plan on moving out of the USA at least for a few years. Go Check out FairVote. I’m all for this change to direct election, it will encourage people to get out and vote. Here’s an excerpt from their webpage. That’s not the worst of it, though. After all, some people might count it a blessing to be spared the October onslaught of thirty-second spots ...

Reflections on Health

I think a lot at the gym, it’s my refuge to go over the meaning of feelings in my human experience, and dissect my day. I’m tempted to get all Vonnegut one of these days and write a story about the absurdness of it all and how my human experience was so confusing compared to my Tralfamadorian ...
