On Black Friday we witnessed a 20th century phenomenon that still has legs: thousands and thousands of American consumers went to stores and bought things. A lot of that commerce is happening online, but not all of it. Similarly, we are seeing a lot of work shifting from the office to the online (remote) world. Not all work is moving there, but a greater percentage will go there in the future.
In fact, Gary Swart, CEO of the world’s largest online workplace, oDesk, believes that going forward "more than one-third of the population will be working online by the year 2020."
The benefits of hiring an online workforce are laid out by Swart in the video below, derived from a lesson on Big Think Edge, the only forum on YouTube designed to help you get the skills you need to be successful in a rapidly changing world.
Swart points out that there is a full-on talent war in today's marketplace and it’s time consuming, expensive and very competitive. However, using an online platform for hiring can help organizations to:
reach a broader talent pool
have greater flexibility
