On Black Friday we witnessed a 20th century phenomenon that still has legs: thousands and thousands of American consumers went to stores and bought things. A lot of that commerce is happening online, but not all of it. Similarly, we are seeing a lot of work shifting from the office to the online (remote) world. Not all work is moving there, but a greater percentage will go there in the future. 

In fact, Gary Swart, CEO of the world’s largest online workplace, oDesk, believes that going forward "more than one-third of the population will be working online by the year 2020."
