Heart is not enough - there should be some aesthetically redeeming value to music as well. For example, I would much rather listen to a klezmer band, a navajo story song, or kabuki, than grindcore, or rap where half the words the lyrics start with 'f'.

I look at it this way, if when you hear a song, you tap your foot, smile a little or sing along, then that is good music. The purpose of music is to entertain you. I like a very wide range of music. Just because I don’t like Blue grass or think that most Country songs are about alcoholism and trailers, doesn’t mean there is some redneck in a bar singing along with it.

I think rezzerektion has a really low standard for good music. You could tap your foot to a metronome with some basic chords over it but that doesn’t make it “good.” Music is all about emotion, and if one has to even ask the question “how do I know when I’m listening to good music” they either have never actually heard good music or are not musically aware enough to appreciate good music.
